When I recently relocated to Sarasota I was in a constant state of exploration. Mama G’s is one of the hidden gems that I discovered.
All the pastries here are homemade by third generation German baker, Beate Goldstein, hence the moniker, Mama G. Her products are distinctly European, meaning that they’re not overly sweet and are made according to generations old recipes.
Beate or as I like to call her “Mama” is so full of passion and hospitality, she gives me and all her customers a hug with her smile each and every time I visit. Here is one of MyPerfectBites.
This classic Viennese pastry has a delicate, tender, flaky outer puff pastry shell filled with a combination of thinly sliced Gala apples, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins and almonds.
The combination of the slightly tart apple paired with pop of sweetness from the raisins, the zesty kick from the cinnamon and the nutty crunch of the almonds, all wrapped within the flaky tender crust really did it for me.
Pair this with a hot steaming cup of Jamaican Me Crazy coffee from Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea out of Tampa and I’m in my “happy place” for the rest of the day.
