Yes, I know. I know, the title of this post is a bit “cheesy” but the Artisan Cheese Company in Sarasota, Florida is anything but!!
This place is a serious cheese shop, run by serious cheese people without a serious attitude. They know how to celebrate one of natures great creations, CHEESE.
I had the opportunity to meet Louise Converse, who owns this little gem with her husband a few weeks ago while enjoying a Cheese & Charcuterie Board. Louise and her staff , led by CIA grad Kailene Quinn guided us through the ordering process and could not have been more hospitable. They all LOVE cheese and everything about it and will make sure you will too. It is rare these days to find a group of people as passionate as they are about what they do.
We opted for three cheeses and two meats from their rotating list. The presentation was beautiful and the selections were delicious.
Here is a short recap of the deliciousness.
SOFIA from Capriole Farms in Indiana is a velvety, ash ripened goat cheese that went really nicely with the fresh raspberries and blackberries offered.
KEEN’S CHEDDAR from Morehouse Farms in England is a savory raw cow’s milk cheese that tasted just like a good sharp cheddar should.
STILTON BLUE from Colston Basset in England is a rich cow’s milk blue cheese with that creamy, tangy, nutty flavor that I absolutely LOVE.
SOPRESSATA from Columbus Craft Meats in San Francisco, CA. This stuff is downright yummy. Salty, a bit spicy, fatty, spiked with garlic and fennel.
The last item was one that I was very excited to try and was not disappointed.
NDUJA from La Quercia in Norwalk, Iowa. This is a wonderful spread made from their sustainability raised prosciutto, speck and a bit of spicy red pepper. It is earthy, salty, nutty and sweet. This spread is like nothing else I have ever had before. I can’t wait to take some home to experiment with it.
If you are a closet “cheesehead” like me, you have to visit Louise and her team at the Artisan Cheese Company or check them out online at www.artisancheesecompany.com. They have cheese classes, great unique offerings, pop up dinners and so much more. Stop by and tell them that Craig from MyPerfectBite sent you. I can assure you too will find YOUR PerfectBite!
